In 1979 I was born in Germany, my father was a professional soldier in the Air Force, he was stationed there. In 1992 we moved back to the Netherlands and I came to live in Doesburg.
In 2006 I met my wife at a wedding in Hungary; she is German and was still living in Munich at the time. The following year she relocated to Rijswijk, and I also moved to this region.
After living first in The Hague and then in Wateringen, we now live in Rijswijk. We have a son of 13.
By coincidence I came on the radar of Manpower Professional, because in the past I had worked as a Document Controller in Antwerp for 3 months. At that time they were looking for a Document Controller for Jacobs in Leiden. We had a click and a month later I was working at Jacobs, for Manpower Professional. Later, Manpower Professional merged into Vitae. Rick Ardts was my contact at that time.
During my time at Jacobs and Worley I stayed in touch with Rick. When I no longer felt at home at my workplace in 2021, I started a conversation with Rick and he offered me a position at Ditio.
In January 2022, I started working as a Cost Engineer at Ditio, nota bene at the exact same workplace I left behind at Worley with the same laptop.
I am a Medior Cost Engineer and have been working at the BP refinery in Europoort since January 2023.
Although I also had a good time at Worley during the time I worked there for Ditio, BP is really where I feel at home.
It is not so much a "Project," I started on the Oil Movement projects in January 2023, as a replacement for a colleague who was taking an extended time off to go on a world trip.
I was later asked to take on departmental reporting, so I now compile the reports for the refinery's entire project portfolio.
Ugh, there have been several. I think the most memorable was receiving a Christmas package even before my contract at Ditio started.
In fact, in December 2022, Ditio colleagues wearing Santa hats were already at the door to give me my first Ditio Christmas package in advance.
I feel comfortable in my role now, in addition to my work for BP I give Excel training at Ditio's office in Rijswijk at a few times a year.
In terms of development, I would very much like to do more within Power BI, for which I have already taken the first tentative steps within BP.
What the future holds after that? I wouldn't know, time will tell.
