Diederik-Liek

Ditiosi speaking: Diederik Liek

What is it like to work at Ditio? That's what we ask our employees themselves. This time it's Diederik Liek's turn. Diederik started at Ditio in 2019 and is now working as a Senior Project Planner. He likes to talk about his experience at Ditio.

Diederik, could you introduce yourself briefly?

My name is Diederik Liek, originally from and living in the province of Zeeland and now working within the ship and yacht building industry for more than ten years.

How did you end up at Ditio?

In the spring of 2019, I received an enthusiastic message via LinkedIn from a Ditio recruiter. I was somewhat skeptical, but he insisted on having a coffee sometime and was even willing to travel to Zeeland for it. After a good conversation in the lobby of a hotel, I got such a good feeling about this club that I was actually already convinced. After that, things moved quickly and I joined Ditio in June 2019. Initially, I chose Ditio to broaden my horizons and look around within other industries. But as former colleagues said when I started my career, "once you start in shipbuilding, you never leave".

What role do you fulfill at Ditio?

And as it turned out, via an assignment at Oceanco (Zwijndrecht) I eventually ended up at Damen Yachting (Vlissingen). As Sr. Project Planner I am involved in several refit projects, after I was labeled as "refit specialist" after my first project at Damen Yachting. Within such a refit project, almost the same working method is applied as in a new-build project, when it comes to project planning. The environment however, is much more dynamic and requires more detail and speed. All processes that contribute to the delivery of the project are mapped, planned, monitored, maintained and reported. In this way, I support the project management, project team and subcontractors.

What is the most fun project you've done at Ditio?

That is definitely the refit of the Amels yacht Here Comes The Sun (2021). Despite coming in on an ongoing project, my reception felt like a warm bath. After my job in Zwijndrecht, I found myself working again in "my" province, where I found myself in a highly professional environment with truly wonderful facilities and many (old) acquaintances! It was a race against the clock, finally working through the well-known "collective summer closure", but the result is worth it and can be seen on the Damen Yachting website.

What is a memorable moment within your career at Ditio?

Of course, the wonderful parties and events are memorable moments, where we relax together while maintaining relationships. But what has stayed with me the most is the way Ditio treated its employees during the lockdown periods during Covid. Everyone was "trapped" in their own homes, but Ditio did everything it could to keep us motivated and happy. An informal check-in by your manager, an app from the CEO, online get-togethers and game nights, the occasional gift through the mail and a Christmas package delivered to your home by Management. It was all equally sincere and thoughtful.

How do you envision your future at Ditio?

I am very happy with my current client, Damen Yachting. I hope to be employed here for a long time to come. I also want to continue to develop myself through training courses and sharing my knowledge within the Ditio organization. Through regular 'cross-pollination' with Ditio colleagues who all work in a different 'kitchen', we not only broaden our knowledge - but ultimately that of our clients as well.
